DIMAPUR, April 14

After more than three months of open brawl for change of leadership and party symbol, the Noke Wangnao and G Kaito Aye led Naga People’s Front (NPF) extended hands for reconciliation with Shürhozelie led NPF, which has a been accepted and agreed upon by the latter. In a joint statement Noke and Kaito highlighting the initiatives of reconciliation that is being undertaken within the NPF, said their party in its CEC Meeting held on March 31 last in its resolutions welcomed the appeal of the NGOs, mass based organisations, hohos and concerned citizens for the NPF to reconcile and work together in the greater interest of the State. The party also acknowledged the directive of the Election Commission of India (ECI) for the party to amicably resolve the differences within the NPF, they said.
Accordingly, the duo said the party has resolved to pursue reconciliation within the NPF in the interest of the party unity and in the overall interest of the State.
They said that in accordance with the resolutions, Noke had officially written to Dr. Shürhozelie on April 1 to pursue reconciliation as directed by the ECI and also in acknowledgement of the appeal of the civil societies and other sections.
They revealed that Dr. Shürhozelie replied to Noke’s letter on April 7 welcoming the initiative while also agreeing on the need to reconcile within the party.
“Accordingly, senior leaders have already met Dr. Shürhozelie to continue the process of reconciliation and we are awaiting his further follow-up action for the process of reconciliation to be expedited,” they said.
Maintaining that since the process of reconciliation is well underway, they said there is no question of camping or joining either side by any of the MLAs. “All our leaders and members are meeting each other to pursue reconciliation,” the duo maintained.
Therefore, Noke and Kaito have assured all rank and file of the NPF party and the citizens of the State that “we have positively responded to the appeal of the mass based organisations and the civil societies for reconciliation and also the directive of the ECI”.
“We are sincerely pursuing it and we also welcome the positive response of Dr. Shürhozelie towards amicable resolution of our differences in a give and take policy under a spirit of forgive and forget,” the duo added.
Meanwhile, a letter written by Noke Wangnao addressed to Dr. Shürhozelie dated April 1 said that he had been entrusted by the CEC in its meeting held on March 31 to take up this issue with him so as to thrash out all the differences and work together again in the interest of the mandate of the State.
“The people of Nagaland have given their mandate to the NPF Party as well as the DAN coalition in 2013 general election”, he said adding that “we have unanimously resolved to reconcile and unite in the greater interest of the party, the people and the ongoing Indo-Naga political process”.
On the other hand, Dr. Shürhozelie in response on April 7 conveyed the stand of his party that “we highly welcome the proposal because we always stand for unity of the party and stability of the Government”.
“Our obligation is to acknowledge the mandate given to us by the people by delivering the goods to the people in the running of the Government. In fact it saddened us when you people moved away from the party. But there is no problem which cannot be solved if we put our trust on one another”, he said.
Dr. Shürhozelie also opined that it will be proper to convene a meeting with two of them and TR Zeliang at their (Noke and Kaito) convenient time in Kohima to discuss face to face the problem for its solution. He also asked them to communicate either in writing or even telephone their convenient date while also asserting that he would also find convenient time for TR Zeliang and convene a meeting at the earliest.
