Dimapur, Nov. 17 (EMN): The much-awaited FIFA World Cup 2022 is set to begin on November 20 (Sunday), in what will be the first winter edition in the history of the competition.

Following the draw on April 1 and the intercontinental playoff winners in June in Doha, the complete match schedule is now known, as the field is officially complete.

A total of 32 teams will participate in the tournament across 64 matches over a period of 29 days.

FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 will be broadcast on Sports18 and Sports18 HD. It will also be live streamed on the JioCinema app in India. You can watch matches on the JioCinema website for free.

FIFA World Cup 2022 will begin with 32 teams in eight groups of four:

Group A: Qatar, Ecuador, Senegal, Netherlands

Group B: England, Iran, USA, Wales

Group C: Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Poland

Group D: France, Australia, Denmark, Tunisia

Group E: Spain, Costa Rica, Germany, Japan

Group F: Belgium, Canada, Morocco, Croatia

Group G: Brazil, Serbia, Switzerland, Cameroon

Group H: Portugal, Ghana, Uruguay, South Korea

The first knockout round kicks off on December 3 and will be followed by the quarter-finals from December 9 and the semi-finals from December 13.

The group stage will be a round-robin format with each of the 32 teams playing three matches. Teams will get three points for a win and one for a draw. The top two teams in each group will advance to the last 16.

The knockout rounds will feature one-off matches, which can go to extra time and then penalties to decide the winner.

The third-place playoff between the two losing semi-finalists takes place on December 17 at the Khalifa International Stadium.

The World Cup final will be played on Sunday, December 18 which is Qatar National Day. The match will kick off at 1500 GMT (6 pm IST). The 80,000-capacity Lusail Iconic Stadium, which is 15 km north of central Doha and the largest venue for the tournament, will host the World Cup title clash.
