Farmers urged to boost economy

Dimapur, August 18 (EMN): Considering that Nagaland is bestowed with rich natural resources, Parliamentary Secretary of Land Resources, BS Nganlang Phom, called upon the farmers to utilise their God gifted land in order to boost the rural economy and attain self sufficiency.
BS Nganlang made comparison with the poor Naga families living in the rural area with the rest of the country, saying that Nagas might be poor in other needs but they are rich and blessed with their ancestor land. He called upon the farmers to utilise their God gifted land to boost their rural economy for self-sufficiency.
He was addressing at the culmination programme of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana -Watershed Development Component (PMKSY-WDC) erstwhile Integrated Watershed Management Programme (IWMP) on August 16 at the auditorium of Yingli College, Longleng.
Nganlang also highlighted on completion of DPO’s office building in all the 11 districts and enumerated various achievements and activities of the department during his tenure as minister in-charge.
Nganlang also released a book on the achievement of the project in Yongam and gave away the WDF fund to the farmers.
Stating that Nagas are blessed with rich fertile land, Secretary of LRD, Y Kikheto Sema, appealed to the farmers to develop their land which will sustain for generations if developed with efficiency under the supervision of the department. He advised the farmers to adopt crops like cardamom, rubber and coffee where markets are available to sell their products.
Citing the motto of the LRD Department “Waste to Wealth,” he informed that his department is trying to provide what is suitable for the land and best for the people. He also urged the gathering to adopt work culture with dedication for all round development.
Director of LRD, Hoto Yeptho, in his speech, informed the farmers that WDF fund is not for distribution among the farmers but to invest in income generating purpose in the form of loan to farmers at minimum interest rate to maintain the existing projects functioning. Also informing that coffee plantation will also be introduced shortly, he urged the farmers to emulate from Yongam village and avail the opportunity when it is available. He exhorted not to go for subsidy but to earn through hard work by developing their God gifted land.
Deputy Commissioner, Longleng, Y Denngan Avennoho Phom, in his short speech, lauded the department of Land Resource Department, for opening the eyes of the people through their departmental activities in the rural areas of Longleng district. He urged the landowners not be hindrance to any development activities in the district but donate their land for development.
The DC also called upon the Parliamentary Secretary, Secretary and Director LRD, and suggested for construction of marketing complex in Longleng under LRD which will benefit the people of the district.
The programme was chaired by A Pangjung Jamir, Joint Director & Supervisory Officer PMKSY-WDC, Longleng, and the programme culminated with vote of thanks by Phamphen, WDTM.
