Farmers training on winter vegetable conducted at Beisumpuikam
DIMAPUR — All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP- vegetable crops), Nagaland Centre, School of Agriculture Sciences, Nagaland University under NEH Programme, conducted a one-day farmer’s training on ‘Integrated nutrient, disease and insect management of winter vegetable crops in the changing climatic scenario’ at Beisumpuikam village in Peren district on September 20.
The training programme, which was coordinated by Dr. Moakala Changkiri, Scientist, AICRP (VC), SAS, NU and Yongkogtula, was aimed at creating awareness on the importance of integrated management in vegetable cultivation to have better production, keeping in mind the soil and crop health amid changing climatic scenario, informed a press release from AICRP.
In the first technical session, Dr. Ashwini Ananda, Scientist, AICRP-VC, SAS: NU, emphasised the methodology and various ideas on vegetable crop production with the integrated use of organic sources along with inorganic nutrients. He encouraged the farmers to adopt advanced methods of vegetable cultivation developed by the centre after years of trials. He also demonstrated the importance of nurseries particularly for high-value vegetable crops in order to get better economic returns.
In the second technical session, Dr. Nayan Kishor Adhikary, Scientist, AICRP-VC, SAS: NU, gave a pictorial presentation on the major insect pests and diseases of winter vegetable crops and how to manage them in an integrated manner without affecting the quality of the crop and soil.
The training was attended by about 100 farmers. An interactive session was also held with the farmers who shared feedback on the training programme.
Winter vegetable seeds and organic bio-fertilisers were also distributed to all the farmers, the release stated.
