Dimapur, May 7 (EMN): Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Zunheboto, Nagaland University, in collaboration with NCIPM, New Delhi, conducted a training programme and distribution of items including pesticides at Litta Old village in Zunheboto district.
An update from KVK Zunheboto stated that fall army worm (FAW) infestation in maize crops has become very common and caused huge economic loss to the farming communities.
It was after getting the information about FAW infestation in the maize fields in Litta Old Village, Dr, Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia, senior scientist and KVK head, and Wapangtoshi Longkumer, ACTO (plant protection) visited the fields and inspected the farm.
After confirmation of FAW infestation, plant protection scientist explained in details about how to control the pest using organic, indigenous methods and by using pesticides as last resort. It stated that farmers have also reported infestation in soybean with bean Leaf beetle and tomato with fruit borer. It added that the scientist had provided all the detail information on how to control the pests and what preventive measure should be taken in future to prevent spread of those pests from one field to another.
Report also stated that the participating farmers were provided with free inputs in the form of yellow sticky traps, neem oils, pesticides and sprayer.
