Kohima, Jan. 19 (EMN): Mission Organic Value Chain Development- North East Region (MOVCD-NER) under the supervision of Agriculture department and the service provider Green Caravan conducted a training for farmers on post harvest management as well as managerial training of FPC, BoD and CEO on bookkeeping and accounting at Hotel Saramati, Dimapur, on January 19.

An update from the department informed that the training and workshop was chaired by Manen Ozukum, TGC project coordinator, while the deputy director (Organic), Dr. James Chawang, was the resource person wherein he shared the guidelines and the various subsidies available within the MOVCD-NER scheme.

Dr. Chawang also encouraged the farmers to cultivate high value crops with marketing strategies. He informed the farmers that FPC could avail 75 percent subsidy for integrated processing unit, integrated pack house, cold room, refrigerated van and 50% subsidy for purchase of transportation vehicles.

Meanwhile, the chairman of Green Caravan, a service provider for MOVCD-NER, Richard Belho also gave insights on the importance of organic farming and lessening dependence on machines stating that ‘once the machines stop working, production would also come to a halt.’

It mentioned that under MOVCD-NER, two FPC in Dimapur namely Dimapur Organic Producer Company Limited and Kana Organic Producer Company Limited have been formed.
