Dimapur, May 18 (EMN): Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) under Chiephobozou block conducted training on Integrated Pest Management (IPM) of Fall Army Worm (Spodopterafrugiperda) on May 15 to tackle the recent outbreak of insect-pest especially in maize fields at Meriema village under Kohima district.
The team conducted the training on various control measures. The team emphasised on proper land preparation, crop rotation with non-host plants and burning of left over stubbles as a preventive measure before the pest occurrence.
Importance of entomopathogens such as Beauveriabassiana, use of NSKE and marigold extracts were also highlighted in order to reduce the environmental impact of insecticides. On severe infestation, use of insecticide namely Emamectin Benzoate 5% SG under the trade name “Pocket” was recommended to spray over entire infested fields.
Altogether, 40 participants from other neighbouring villages also attended the training.
