Farmers trained on fish health management

[caption id="attachment_237587" align="alignnone" width="550"] Resource persons and participants pose for a group photo during the awareness programme on fish health management in Dimapur.[/caption] Dimapur, March 8 (EMN): ICAR- central institute of fisheries education (ICAR- CIFE), Mumbai, and the department of fisheries and aquatic resources, have jointly conducted two-day programme on “Fish health management” at fisheries biologist brooder fish farm, Dimapur, on March 6 and 7. Nodal officer of NEH for ICAR-CIFE, Mumbai, spoke on fish health management, fundamental and basic approached on management of infectious diseases, fish nutrition and health, nutritional diseases and herbal treatments, on-hand demonstration for identification of disease in fishes, conservation of fish diversity in the state, and cost-benefit ratios in fisheries management for maximising profit. Dr. Megha Kadam Bedekar, principal scientist of ICAR-CIFE, explained on best management practices to prevent the diseases in aquaculture and demonstrated the basic techniques for diagnosing disease in fish. The programme was officially opened by the state horticulture secretary, MK Mero. State director of fisheries, Kevisa Kense has lauded ICAR- CIFE for the support in organising the programme for the benefits of farmers in the state. Officer in-charge of fisheries biologist brooder fish farm, Dr. Amenla, also praised the efforts of ICAR-CIFE, Mumbai, for sensitising the farmers on communicable diseases in fish and fish health management aspects. She urged farmers to clear their doubts by interacting with the experts from ICAR-CIFE, Mumbai. A total of 72 participants including farmers and technical personnel of state fisheries officials attended the programme.
