Farmers trained on cultivation of kharif crops

[caption id="attachment_236126" align="aligncenter" width="700"] Farmers of Zhuikhu village pose for a group photo after the training on scientific cultivation of summer crops organised by SASRD, NU Medziphema campus, on February 26.[/caption] Dimapur, Feb. 28 (EMN): School of Agricultural Sciences and Rural Development (SASRD), Nagaland University, Medziphema campus, conducted farmer’s training on ‘Scientific cultivation of summer vegetable crops’ in Zhuikhu village on February 26. The training was conducted to highlight the farmers on the importance of vegetable cultivation and plant protection in summer vegetables crop to make them aware of the benefits and advantages in growing vegetables. The farmers were also highlighted on some important natural enemies (farmers friends), how to identify and preserve them in their field. During the technical session-I, topic on ‘Scientific cultivation of summer vegetable crops” was delivered by N Walling, assistant professor, B.Voc programme, SASRD: NU, while in technical session-II topic on “Plant protection of summer vegetable crops” was delivered by Kavi Sumi, scientist, AICRP on pigeon pea, SASRD: NU. Altogether 66 farmers have participated in the training. The programme began with a brief introduction by professor Akali Sema, in-charge TSP- AICRP (vegetable crops), Nagaland Centre, who highlighted on the importance of vegetables to the farmers and the different types of summer vegetables that could be grown successfully in a village like Zhuikhu. The technical session was followed with an interactive session conducted by Dr. Moakala Changkiri, scientist, AICRP-VC, SASRD: NU, wherein farmers whole-heartedly participated and shared their opinions and views. The wrap-up session was conducted by Dr. Waluniba, scientist, training in-charge, AICRP-VC, SASRD: NU. After the training, Dr. Aastik Jha, scientist, AICRP-VC, SASRD: NU, distributed seeds of summer vegetable crops to all the participants. Meanwhile, GB of Zhuikhu village has expressed heartfelt gratitude to AICRP-vegetable crops, department of horticulture, SASRD: NU, for organising the training programme in the village. The training was coordinated by Dr. Waluniba, Dr. Aastik Jha and Dr. Moakala Changkiri.
