Dimapur, April 19 (EMN): The State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (Sameti) organised a three-day training programme with the thematic subject “apiculture and post harvest management” on April 17 to the 19th Sameti at Medziphema in Dimapur.
A press release from the institution on Thursday informed that the event was conducted for Atma functionaries at the Sameti.
According to the press release, the training course covered topics on: introduction to bees and beekeeping, life cycle and caste of bees, tools and equipments, routine management, seasonal management, swarming and absconding, colony transfer and colony division / uniting, role of bees in pollination and post-harvest management.
A practical demonstration on colony division and identification on caste of bees and brood, working with brood and super chambers, and routine management was conducted at Nagaland Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM) in Dimapur. The participants visited the multi utility centre of the NBHM as part of field visit where they were toured the museum, processing unit, and the entire establishment, the press release stated.
The director of Sameti, Dr. I Amenla, in her speech mentioned that, farming today should be taken beyond the boundaries of cultivation and explore new methods of post harvest management. She also stated that there is ample of opportunity for employment of rural youth in the Apiculture sector. She encouraged the trainees to play the role of extension agents effectively so as to contribute in achieving the mission’s vision of 2030, the press release added.
