Farmers in Mokokchung sensitised on Agromet Advisory Services

Dimapur, Nov. 20 (EMN): In the wake of climate change, the District Agro Met Unit (DAMU) under Gramin Krishi Mausam Sewa of IMD established at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Mokokchung, conducted a farmers’ awareness programme on November 16 and 17 in Waromung and Nokpu villages under Mangkolemba and Longchem blocks respectively.

A press release by DAMU-KVK, Mokokchung, stated that Dr. Keviletsü Khate, senior scientist and head of KVK Mokokchung, on his keynote address, has emphasised on climate change, weather and its variability, strategic planning and better management of weather and climate risk in agriculture using Agro Met Advisory Services (AAS). He apprised the farmers to avail the AAS to boost their agricultural production by taking advantage of favorable weather and to minimise the adverse impact of extreme weather events.

It informed that DAMU at KVK, Mokokchung, particularly renders the Agro Met Advisory Services to the farming community of Mokokchung district via WhatsApp groups, Kisan-Vani Programme of All India Radio (AIR) Mokokchung, Kisan Mobile Advisory Services (KMAS) and local dailies namely Ao Milen and Mokokchung Times.

It stated that Ningshiyangerla Walling, subject matter specialist (agro-meteorology), spoke on weather information related to Agro Met Advisory preparation, dissemination and application in performing agricultural operations and feedback.

It added that ‘Meghdoot,’ a mobile app to assist farmers for weather-based farm management was demonstrated during the programme.

Report further stated that Dr. Keviletsü Khate and Dr. Sarendi Walling, assistant chief technical officer of veterinary and animal husbandry at KVK Mokokchung carried out health camps for livestock.

Imnanungsang and T Lanusosang Ao, village council chairmen of Waromung and Nokpu village respectively pronounced the vote of thanks. Altogether, 61 farmers attended the awareness programme.
