Mokokchung, November 4: N Lanu Aier, SMO and Secretary of APMC, said time has come for the farmers to do way with attitude of dependency on politicians and legislators but to focus more on enhancing agricultural productivity since the State does not have any industries.
He was addressing the farmers at a seminar on Reconstitution of Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC), organised by ATMA Mokokchung at Community Hall, Penli Ward, on November 4 with an aim to enhance the quality control marketing and to furnish the farmers on market dynamics.
Aier urged the farmers to cultivate products which are suitable to land and apply latest agriculture techniques for surplus productions. While pointing out that agri-products harvested in the State are organic, he however, lamented that the whole produce are ruined in the market due to lack of quality control marketing in terms of categorising the products and unhygienic presentation. Enlightening that consumers go for products which are attractive and hygienic, he advised the farmers to known the concept of the modern days marketing system.He also highlighted the importance of “The Nagaland Agricultural Produce Marketing Act 2005 and the Constitution of VMC Sub Marketing & APMC.”
Earlier, Daniel Angami, EAC Mokokchung, exhorted the farmers and gave away the district level best farmers awards (2015-16). Out of seven recipients, two selected farmers namely Tekasungba from Khar under Mangkolemba Block, and Moameren from Yajang B village under Longchem Block, were awarded on November 3 during the district level exhibition held in Mongkolemba town.
The remaining five recipients were Sutep Lenden of Agri 7 Allied Co-operative Society Limited from Longkong village under Changtongya Block; Imo Yaden from Anakiyimsen under Changtongya Block; Kileninla from Mopungchuket village under Kobulong Block; Chubawati from Mokokchung village under Ongpangkong North Block; and Pangjunglemba from Aliba village under Ongpangkong South Block. Representatives from more than 30 villages under Mokokchung district attended the seminar.
