Like a river emptying into the sea,
Ne’er to flow back to you and me,
2018 enters into pages of history
Leaving behind only the memory.
Mixed memories of the year gone;
Engraved in mind; can’t be undone.
Good or bad, they are there to stay;
Some, time would soon wipe away.
Dear soul, have you played your part,
With resolution made from the start
Of the year that’s closing its chapter,
To effect change in others for better?
Have you been the shoulder to cry on,
Or t’at someone trustworthy to rely on?
Have you been the reason for a smile?
Has your life in 2018 been worthwhile?
Has thou enacted a play of comedy,
Or steered the mainrole in a tragedy?
Celebrate thy Act or repent if ye must,
For you know not if 2018 be your last.
2019 AD awaits, wrapped itself in grace:
To be gifted to those who’d run the race
In faith, and carve their name on destiny,
That they might find mention in eternity.
May we welcome the New Year in love,
As we place the Old in Heavens above,
That the Lord take care of all our past,
And be among us till we return to dust.
