The setting

This time Far Cry 6 will take you to a fictional Caribbean island of Yara ruled by a fascist dictator called “El Presidente” Antón Castillo whose voice will be played by the venerable Giancarlo Esposito of The Boys, The Mandalorian and Breaking Bad fame. The dictator has a young son named Diego who is mentored by his father in hopes that his son will be ready when he eventually succeeds him. Antón Castillo has been in power for the past 50 years and his relationship with his son Diego will take centre stage in the game. It will be interesting to see the evolution of the father-son dynamic and where the protagonist Dani will fit in the story.

The main protagonist

Players will get to play the role of Dani Rojas, a revolutionary guerrilla fighter with the objective to topple the reign of Antón Castillo and liberate Yara from the clutches of the dictator. The game will let you choose the gender of your character and depending on your choice, your character will be voiced by either Sean Rey (Male) or Nisa Gunduz (Female).

In-game companions

Just like Far Cry 5 and Far Cry New Dawn, Far Cry 6 will let you hire companions to help with your missions. The guns for hire option this time has been named “Amigos for hire” and one of the companions available for players is a paraplegic dachshund with a wheelchair for hind legs named Chorizo.

Speculation: Diego is a young Vaas Montenegro?

After the release of the cinematic trailer for Far Cry 6, fans have been speculating that Antón Castillo’s son Diego might actually be a young Vaas Montenegro and Far Cry 6 could be a prequel to Far Cry 3. Vaas Montenegro is a fan-favourite character of the Far Cry series played by Michael Mando who is the main antagonist of 2012’s Far Cry 3.

Fans have noticed that Diego has a scar in his right eyebrow similar to Vaas’s character in Far Cry 3. Another theory to support the claim is that Far Cry 6 takes place around 1990 and Vaas was born in 1985 causing many fans to speculate that Diego is indeed the younger version of Vaas Montenegro.
