Dimapur, April 3 (EMN): Renowned businessman and philanthropist Yashitsungba Ao, considered a pioneer entrepreneur among Nagas in Nagaland, passed away at the age of 90 years on Tuesday at Eden Medical Centre in Dimapur after a brief illness.
He leaves behind two sons, two daughters and four grand children. Born to late Takanungba Aier and Longernaro Longchar on April 15 1927, Ao hails from Süngratsü village under Mokokchung district. He started his career as a businessman in the 1960s going on to become a prominent contractor. Zion Hospital and Research Centre and Eden Medical Centre Dimapur are sheer testimonies of his humanitarian work and he was the chairman of these two centres.
Ao was awarded ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ in 2010 on the occasion of North East Expo' in recognition of his contribution and achievements as an entrepreneur, and Süngratsü Senso Mondang's ‘Best Citizen Award’ in 2007.
Recognised as a generous individual and an active social worker, Ao took up responsibility as Army Contractors and Suppliers Union president and Nagaland Contractors and Suppliers Union advisor. Till his passing away he was the treasurer of Dimapur Süngratsü Union, Ao Union Dimapur treasurer and treasurer of Nagaland Foothills Road Co-ordination Committee (NFHRCC).
It was informed that the funeral service of Yashitsungba Ao will be held at state stadium near DC court Dimapur on April 4 at 12 noon.
Meanwhile, the Business Association of Nagas has informed that all business establishments in Dimapur will remain shut from 12 noon till 2 pm on April 4 in a mark of respect for Yashi Ao.
