DIMAPUR — Nagaland Police have informed that the Government of Punjab credited INR 15 lakh to the account of the wife of late Constable Yangtsase Sangtam on June 6 for his supreme sacrifice.

This payment is in accordance with the Election Commission of India guidelines for ex-gratia payments to polling personnel and police personnel in cases of death or grievous injuries arising out of and in the course of election duty, according to a press release.

For the three other personnel of the Nagaland Armed Police (NAP) (India Reserve) Battalion who tragically lost their lives in Bihar during the Lok Sabhe election duty, it has been informed that the process for ex-gratia compensation has already been initiated for swift reimbursement.

Providing further details regarding the death of late Yangtsase, the release mentioned that during the call of duty on May 23, Yangtsase of B Company, 13 NAP (IR) Battalion, after carrying out duties at the Prime Minister’s election rally in Patiala, Punjab, had a tragic accidental fall from a building and succumbed in the early hours of May 25.

The mortal remains of Yangtsase were flown to Nagaland with assistance from the Election Commission of India and Punjab Police, and he was laid to rest with full honours befitting.

“While loss of life cannot be compensated in terms of money, the Election Commission and Nagaland Police endeavour to do whatever is required to bring succour to the families of the deceased personnel,” read the statement.

Furthermore, it stated that Nagaland Police always responded to the call of duty, whether it be in maintaining law and order and public peace within the state, addressing left-wing extremism outside the state, or election duty across the country.

It noted that for the elections of 2024, NAP (IR) companies were deployed for election-related duties in all seven phases.
