IMPHAL, September 11: After their tree plantation-cum-social service programme at the picturesque and around Tumuyon Khullen village, 55 km north of Imphal in Manipur’s Senapati district about 100 days ago, the members of “LeTz pAiNt tHe EaRtH gReEn,”, a facebook group and Blooming Manipur took up the flower plantation initiative in collaboration with women folks at Chingmeirong Maning Leikai in Imphal on Sunday. Besides members of LeTz pAiNt tHe EaRtH gReEn and Blooming Manipur, the womenfolks of the Chingmeirong Maning Leikai actively took part in the flower plantation session in and around the community pond at around 4.30pm on Sunday. “We, the flower lovers group believe that such a small initiative will support the continuous innovative steps to beautify the Leikai by planting flowers,” says S Manjit, a flower enthusiast and admin of LeTz pAiNt tHe EaRtH gReEn. “We also hope that such initiatives will bring a change in preserving and protecting the dying environment.” On June 4 this year, LeTz pAiNt tHe EaRtH gReEn members in collaboration with Tumuyon Khullen villagers planted around 100 saplings in and around Maram community inhabited village in Senapati district. The Chingmeirong Maning Leikai located on the eastern side of the state’s new assembly complex is perhaps the first Leikai in and around Imphal where the community tries to keep their locality neat and clean by planting flower on the road sides. Interestingly the residents of the said Leikai had already started to avoid using plastic bottled water at its community hall besides avoiding plastic cups at the tea-snacks stalls in their locality. Elangbam Bishwajeet, the key functionary of Blooming Manipur which have been making continuous effort to develop a sense of pride and belongingness of the historic Women markets sheds in the heart of Imphal town by introducing many hanging basket flowers, also appreciated the beautification initiative which was also supported by Eastern Agro & Chemicals, Uripok.
