Dimapur, Dec. 21 (EMN): Extortion in south Arunachal Pradesh has been on the rise in this pre Christmas season, stated a press release issued by the Press Information Bureau (Defence Wing).
The release mentions that since the beginning of November, reports of various fractions of NSCN carrying out extortion activities in the region had been received and a proactive strategy is said to have been adopted by the security forces to deter the underground groups.
In a major crackdown on the extortion nexus two major operations were launched by the Longding and Khonsa battalions of Security Forces during which three hardcore NSCN(U) cadres and one hardcore NSCN(K) cadre were apprehended in the evening of Dec. 20, added the release.
Longding and Khonsa battalions under the aegis of Dao Division have been carrying out unabated operations in south Arunachal Pradesh to keep the area peaceful and out of clutches of insurgents, these apprehension will go a long way in creating fear among the anti national elements in the area.
