Nagaland Governor, P B Acharya and his lady wife Kavita Acharya being felicitated at town hall, Zunheboto on November 20.[/caption] Dimapur, November 21: Reiterating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s slogan that ‘unless North-East India develops, India will not progress,’ State Governor PB Acharya urged the Naga people to explore the latent resources and march forward at par with other states of the country. Addressing the civic reception during his two-day visit to Zunheboto on November 19 at Town Hall, Zunheboto, the Governor reminded that Nagaland has immense potential to move forward with their own available resources which are yet to be explored. Speaking at a civic reception, Acharya said, ‘with warm reception, your love and affection has made me aware of my duties and whatever responsibility is given to me by the Constitution, I will do justice to it.’ Acharya mentioned that talks between the Government of India (GOI) and NSCN (IM) is on the right track which will bring peace and stability in the Naga society. He also voiced out his concern regarding the poor road condition throughout the State and the problem of proxy teachers in government schools which is responsible for poor academic results throughout the State. He further urged the Nagas to be true to their religion through action and deeds adding Nagas can become developed, prosperous and move ahead only through cooperation amongst themselves. While lauding the Sumi tribe as a heroic community, Acharya recalled his association with late Dr. Hokishe Sema adding Sumis are wonderful and talented people. He encouraged them to preserve the good culture inherited from their forefathers. Sumi Hoho and Sumi Kukami Hoho submitted a representation pertaining to various issues. The Governor also visited Mount Carmel Home at Sukhalu village and District Hospital, Zunheboto. At Carmel Home, he had an interaction with the villagers and children of Carmel Home where he donated Rs 20,000 to the children’s home and Rs 20,000 to cultural troupes. At District Hospital, Acharya had an interaction with the doctors and staff where he was updated on the status of the district hospital. Medical Superintendent, Dr. Kheshito Zhimo also submitted a representation to the Governor for addressing various problems pertaining to the hospital. Later, a meeting with NGOs and HODs was held where the Parliamentary Secretary of Soil and Water Conservation, Pukhayi Assumi and MLA G Kaito Aye accompanied the Governor. On November 20, the Governor visited the District Jail and had an interaction with the jail inmates and encouraged them to live a purposeful and respectable life and contribute to the society later in life. The Governor also granted remission to four inmates, distributed blankets and donated Rs 7000 for procurement of handicraft items. The Governor visited SBCZ Church, which is set to be the second largest church in Asia, and interacted with the church officials. He also had a meeting with Ex-servicemen, Red Cross, Bharat Scouts and Guides. Led by Commandant 5th Assam Rifles, Sachit Suri, the Governor interacted with the jawans and families of 5th Assam Rifles where he was presented a gift and warm reception. Throughout the tour, the Governor was accompanied by DC, T Roy, SP Rhetso, SDO (C), Shanavas, Additional SP Relo Aye, head of offices, Hoho leaders and other dignitaries.
