Dimapur, Dec. 9 (EMN): Dimapur district Excise personnel manning Chümoukedima check gate intercepted a Manipur bound truck bearing registration No. AS01CC 4206 and recovered 489 cases of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) on December 8 at around 7:30 pm.
A press release issued by the superintendent of Excise and Prohibition, T Arilong Longkumer, stated that the consignment was recovered concealed beneath bags of cement. It stated that one person identified as Kamrul Islam (25) from Baruating Howraghat in Karbi Anglong, Assam, and a resident of New Showuba village in Dimapur was arrested and booked under the relevant sections of the NLTP Act 1989.
The release added that Tuesday seizure of liquor at Chümoukedima check gate was the second instances in the month of December. Anticipating an increase in shipment of illicit liquor with the approach of the festive season, it stated that the Excise authority is putting all efforts to heighten its surveillance and vigil against such criminal activities.
