Excise department, SF seize liquor in Dimapur

Dimapur, Sep. 22 (EMN): In a major haul involving smuggling of illicit liquor into the state, Excise personnel manning the Chümoukedima check gate confiscated 515 cases of assorted liquor and arrested one person on September 21.

In an update, the superintendent of Excise and Prohibition, T Arilong Longkumer, stated that the consignment was confiscated from a truck based on intelligence inputs at around 12:50 am on September 21. The items were found concealed under cement bags.

It stated that one person identified as David Gour, a resident of Khatkhati in Karbi Anglong district of Assam, was arrested and booked under the relevant sections of NLTP Act 1989. The consignment was reportedly being taken to Kohima at the time when it was confiscated.

The report also stated that efforts are on to pre-empt such illegal trafficking of contrabands adding surveillance and vigil have been heightened across all sensitive checkpoints.

Meanwhile, as part of the ongoing crackdown on illegal activities in Nagaland, security forces along with the state police representative had seized liquor from 4th Mile area in Dimapur on September 20.

The joint team recovered 34 cases of Rum and Whisky, 12 cases of canned Beer and one bottle of Vodka worth approximately INR 4.75 lakh.

A defence release stated that the recovered items were handed over to Diphupar police station, Dimapur, for further investigation.
