Dimapur, Dec. 3 (EMN) : Acting on specific intelligence inputs, Dimapur district Excise personnel manning check gate at Chümoukedima recovered huge quantity of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and arrested two persons on December 2 at around 8:20 pm.
An update from Excise department stated that the illegal consignment was recovered from a truck bearing registration No. MN AA-0422. The truck was among 24 vehicles moving towards Kohima- Imphal from Dimapur along the National Highway 29.
Report stated that Excise personnel recovered a total of 776 case of IMFL concealed beneath sacks of corn/maize grains. It added that two persons identified as Thoithoi Meitei and Lusoi, both resident of Haley Amang Leika, Imphal, Manipur, were arrested and booked under the relevant sections of the NLTP Act 1989.
As per the investigation, the report stated that the seized contrabands were bound for Imphal in Manipur. It also mentioned that smugglers/ bootleggers and traffickers often use the modus operandi of shipping illicit IMFL under the guise of carrying essential commodities by taking advantage of the security cover provided by the state forces.
It further suggested that effort should be made for all commercial vehicles to undergo thorough screening process before providing them safe passage.
