DIMAPUR — To eradicate proliferation of liquor business in Nagaland, the advisor of Excise, Labour, Employment and Skill Development, Moatoshi Longkumer, has insisted enforcement of the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act 1989 and encouraged the Excise personnel to prove their worth stating that the department has been empowered under the Act.

Longkumer stated this during an introductory meeting with the Excise department held in the conference hall of the Excise Directorate on Saturday, an update from the department stated on Saturday.

In his address, Longkumer exhorted the Excise fraternity to work as a team and accept him as their team leader. He stressed that there would be a change in the system and work culture in order to promote and reward on meritocracy. In this context, he has extended all possible support.

The deputy commissioner of Excise (headquarters) and chairperson of the event, Chanlei Angh, welcomed the advisor and all rank and file of the department to the meeting, while the commissioner of Excise, H Atokhe Aye, in his welcome address, expressed gratitude to the advisor for his concern towards the department by visiting the office.

While highlighting the apathy attitude of the government towards the department, he reiterated that it has the potential to make a positive impact in the society.

Also speaking on the occasion, the commissioner and secretary of Excise department, Kevekha Kevin Zehol, congratulated the advisor on his appointment and outlined various ongoing proposals of the department pertaining to infrastructural development, check gate activation and other narcotics related matters.

He expressed hope that the department would be able to scale new heights under the leadership of the new advisor in the days to come.
