Everything you need to know about rumoured Reliance Jio laptop
Dimapur, March 5 (EMN): After conquering the Telecom market in India, Reliance Jio is ready to enter the personal computer space with a low-cost budget Jio laptop.
According to a report by XDA developers, Reliance Jio is working on a low-cost laptop, likely to be called JioBook. The budget Jio laptop is rumoured to run Google’s Android OS instead of Microsoft’s Windows 10 platform.
The report says that XDA Developers had sourced the information from internal documents that it had reviewed. The documents reportedly revealed that the development of the JioBook began in early September of 2020 and is expected to continue through the first half of 2021.
Jio is said to be partnering with China-based Bluebank Communication Technology to manufacture the JioBook. Bluebank is a company that develops mobile devices and software for third-parties. The company’s website mentions that it had created products running KaiOS, the same mobile operating system that runs on Jio‘s low-cost feature phones.
JioBook specs (likely)
XDA Developers reports that the current prototype of the JioBook has a 1366×768 resolution display and is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 SoC. The report claims that there are multiple iterations of the JioBook including a model with 2GB of LPDDR4X RAM paired with 32GB of eMMC storage and another model with 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 64GB of eMMC 5.1 storage.
In terms of connectivity, the JioBook may have support for a mini HDMI connector for video output, WiFi over 2.4 and 5GHz frequencies, Bluetooth, a three-axis accelerometer, and a Snapdragon X12 4G modem.
JioBook price and launch date
The price and launch dates for the rumoured Jio laptop has not been officially announced yet but according to the report, the documents revealed a schedule that suggests that assembly could happen around mid-May of this year. This means that we may most likely see the JioBook launch sometime later this year.
Jio has been known to price its products quite aggressively and if we had to guess the likely price of the JioBook it could be somewhere below the INR 15K price range. Do take this with a grain of salt though.
