EVE Online breaks two Guinness World Records titles
Dimapur, Oct. 29 (EMN): EVE Online, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), made gaming history by breaking two different world records.
Seventeen years after its release, the hugely popular MMORPG created history by breaking two record titles including the largest multiplayer PvP battle and most concurrent participants in a multiplayer video game PvP battle. The huge event has been recognised by Guinness World Records for its record-breaking achievements.
The epic battle, known as the Fury at FWST-8, saw 8,825 players taking part overall and 6,557 playing concurrently at its peak. The battle saw a coalition named PAPI attempt to establish a beachhead Keepstar that would allow them to strike deeper into the Imperium’s territory with their force of supercapital ships. The Imperium reportedly fought for 14 hours to push the invading PAPI forces back and destroy the Keepstar.
According to Guinness World Records, “As a result, 6,746 ships (plus one Keepstar Upwell Structure) were destroyed, 362 capital-class ships were lost, with the total cost of the battle coming to 1.443 trillion ISK (equating to $18,712 USD).”
Having been on the gaming scene for almost 20 years, this is not the first time that EVE Online has made gaming history. Last year, an EVE Online player Ethan Richards aka Katia Sae (USA) became the first person to explore all reachable systems in EVE Online without a single combat loss. This is by no means a small achievement as it took the player almost 10 years to explore all 7,805 reachable solar systems.
