Equal opportunity sought for girl child

Dimapur, March 15 (EMN): President of Lotha Eloe Hoho (LEH), apex women organisation of the Lotha community, Zuchobeni Ezong has sought equally opportunity to women and girl child at par with the male counterparts saying they too contribute equally towards the welfare of the society.

Ezong stated this at the one-day programme on pre-conception and pre-natal diagnostic technique act under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme for Aitepyong circle on March 14 at Lakhuti community hall in Wokha district. The programme was organised by the LEH and district-level centre for women Mahila Shakti Kendra (MSK), in collaboration with the Wokha district administration, a DIPR report stated.

Stating that women play equal role towards uplift of the society, Ezong has urged change of mindset towards women as practiced by the forefathers.

Also speaking at the programme, EAC Aitepyong has voiced equal opportunity for girls and women saying they equally work and contribute in bringing about a change in building a brighter future.

While speaking on the pre-conception and pre-natal diagnostic technique act, member of Wokha district legal services authority, Shanchobeni Khuvung stated that pre-diagnostic or sex selection to determine sex is illegal as per the act which might lead to rigorous imprisonment.

Khuvung also called upon the gathering to be aware of the date of manufacturing of medicine and other essential commodities and date of expiry as it is hazardous to health. She advised to take the help of district consumer forum or legal metrology and consumer protection for remedial measure in case of such detection.

Lotha Eloe Hoho had earlier organised awareness programmes under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) at Merapani and Baghty on January 25 and 29 respectively.
