DIMAPUR — Member of Parliament and vice chairperson of Rajya Sabha, S Phangnon Konyak, has urged the women of eastern Nagaland to embrace unity, forgiveness and solidarity among the ‘seven sisters’ and to play the role of peacemaker in the eastern region.
She stated this during the inaugural function of a two-day 5th general conference of the Eastern Nagaland Women’s Organisation (ENWO), which got underway at Longkhim town on August 17 on the theme “Women beyond barriers.”
Phangnon, who was the chief guest of the conference, underlined the region's unique developmental challenges and cultural richness and emphasised the need to preserve the heritage and values embedded within the tradition, a DIPR report stated.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]She has stressed the significance of women's participation in politics as a means to shape policies and foster comprehensive development. She further commended the efforts of the Modi government in empowering women and encouraged the womenfolk to seize the opportunities for their advancement.
During the event, Phangnong inaugurated an exhibition showcasing the work of ENWO units and released the ENWO magazine.
Dignitaries including the deputy commissioner of Tuensang, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa; ENPO president, R Tsapikiu Sangtam; special transport officer, Alem Bashang; and Brigadier of 7 Sector Assam Rifle, Vikram Singh, also spoke on the occasion.
AST president, Apila Sangtam, has shared greetings, while the welcome address was delivered by ENWO president, A Shamthai Phom.
The event began with an invocation by pastor of LTBC, Dr. Longri, and concluded with a benediction by president of YWO, Resangla Susana.
The conference featured a range of engaging activities including a folk fusion performance by Changsao Thangjam Setshang, a soulful lullaby by Khiamniungan Menyiu Hoikam and a captivating folk song presented by Tikhir Women Association.
