Ensure market linkage for local weavers — MoS Jardosh

DIMAPUR — Union Minister of State for Railways and Textiles Darshana Jardosh on Tuesday, August 29, urged the Nagaland government to ensure market linkage for the local weavers and artisans to sell their products.

Speaking to mediapersons on the sidelines of a programme at Dhansiripar in Chümoukedima district, the Union minister assured that the government is trying its best, with the help of the local lawmakers, to set up the businesses of local artisans in the Government e marketplace (GeM) portal.

Jardosh, who is on a three-day visit to Nagaland, inaugurated the Samarth (Scheme for capacity building in textile sector) training programme, organised by the Weavers’ Service Centre, Dimapur, at Dhansiripar community hall.

Informing that Samarth scheme is one of the best schemes to build capacity in India’s textile sector, especially in rural areas, she said that nearly 1000 women have received the Pehchan card in the handloom and handicraft sector.

The Union minister also disclosed that the implementation of the scheme is going smoothly in Nagaland state as well.

On the occasion, Jardosh also distributed fly shuttle frame looms to selected weavers of Dhansiripar.

The programme was also attended by advisor of Industries and Commerce, Nagaland, Hekani Jakhalu, and Advisor of Sericulture and Minority Affairs Imkongmar.

Earlier, the minister had an interaction with the district administration and HoDs of Chümoukedima district at the DC’s conference hall. It was informed that Jardosh will be visiting all the Northeast states as per the instructions of DONER.

The minister shared that her purpose of visiting Chümoukedima district is to understand the problems of the district.

During the interactive meeting, various departments including Rural Development, Agriculture, Social Welfare, Food and Civil Supplies, Soil and Water Conservation, Health, Power, PWD (R&B), PHED, Sericulture and Handloom and Handicraft, highlighted on ongoing projects and progress of various schemes in their respective departments.

After the meeting, Jardosh also visited Jal Mission project at Kirha vilage, dragon fruit farm at Vidima village, eri rearing project and sericulture farm at Dhansiripar village and M/S Heirloom Naga at Sovima village.
