The Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) has decided to temporarily suspend its proposed boycott of the Statehood Day celebration on December 1 in the four Eastern Nagaland districts of Tuensang, Mon, Longleng and Kiphire.
The decision to this effect was taken to honour the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the State considering the larger interest of the Nagas in general and following appeal by Governor PB Acharya, at a meeting held at Raj Bhavan on November 28, to reconsider the stand on the proposed boycott, ENSF president Shahsha L Menhahu and general secretary Honang M Jessuhu said in a release on Saturday.
Acknowledging the concern expressed by the Governor that the Eastern areas, the then Tuensang and Mon district since the time of late P Shilu Ao, the first Chief Minister of Nagaland, needs more attention, the Federation gladly accepted and welcomed his word to tour the four districts of Eastern Nagaland, the release said.
The ENSF, however, reminded that its demands are “nothing less or more” than the agreement made by the State government with it on November 26, 2013. Henceforth, the Federation asked the State government not to test its patience but to implement the agreement before January 25, 2015 in letter and in spirit.
ENPO welcomes Modi
The Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO), on behalf of the people of Eastern Nagaland, has extended warm and gracious welcome to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the north eastern India in general and Nagaland state in particular.
The ENPO, in a release issued by its president Chingmak Chang and acting general secretary Manlang Phom on Saturday, expressed hope and confidence that the Prime Minister will not only understand the region and the State but will walk extra miles to explore beyond perceived boundaries and ‘under-linings’ in order to usher in better understanding and meaningful relationship between the Naga people and the government of India and the North East region as a whole.
The dynamism and leadership of Modi is also much awaited by the people of Eastern Nagaland for inclusive and participative governance taking into account every corner of the North East India, the ENPO said and expected a grand and a meaningful outcome from this historic visit.
