DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 15

THE Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) has relaxed its scheduled five-day third phase agitation to two days. The Federation has decided to relax its third phase agitation following special request and assurances given by Education Minister CM Chang that he will personally take up the issues with the Chief Minister in fulfilling all four of its demands.ENSF general secretary Honang M Jessuhu said, in a release today, said the Federation in good faith had reluctantly resolved to relax its nature of agitation contrary to what it had resolved on November 14. The release said the meeting with the government at the ENSF HQ in Tuensang on November 14 was a ‘total failure’ as it has failed to fulfill the four- point ultimatum served by the Federation on October 10.
Later in the evening on the day, the Federation at an emergency presidential meeting at the ENSF HQ resolved to begin its 3rd phase agitation in all the four Eastern districts of Nagaland by imposing five-day bandh (complete restriction).
However, the relaxation is purely temporary and is subject to revocation if the verbal assurances do not materialize, the ENSF said.
It informed that the period of agitation will be two days instead of five days as resolved and notified by the Federation.
The release said administration and law enforcing authority will be exempted from the purview of the bandh and that indefinite closure of all DEOs and SDEOs offices had been called off from November 15 onwards. However, they will remain closed on November 19 and 20.
All educational institutions will be exempted and vehicles on school duty will be relaxed from the purview of the bandh.
The Federation has directed all its federating units to strictly adhere to the relaxation made in lieu of plea made by the Education Minister.
The Federation also cautioned SCERT against conducting TET exam until its demands are fulfilled.
It also reminded all the HODs within the four districts of Eastern Nagaland to strictly adhere to the directives issued by the Federation against deduction of one day wage from the employees for the 50th golden jubilee celebration of the State until further intimation from it. Any HODs failing to comply with the directives of the Federation will be held solely responsible for any untoward situation, it cautioned.
It further reminded all the tribal cultural groups that participation in any form of celebration will not be until all the demands are fulfilled.
The Federation also flayed the Home department and the State government for being silent on point No. 4 of the ultimatum and said it is is clear and firm on its demand.
Regarding Niathu Resort assurances, the Federation said if the State government does not fulfill its assurances then it will not hesitate to take up all the corruption issues directly to the Ministry of Human Resource Development at the Centre for immediate justice and rectification.
On MDM corruption issues and in its fight for rectification after Kiphire and Longleng, the Federation extended its gratitude to the Deputy Commissioner Mon for complying with its request to convene meetings with all the MDM signatories in the district and for letting the MDM signatories sign in an affidavit declaring proper and regular implementation of the mid day meal in all the schools.
