DIMAPUR — The Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) has submitted an appeal to the deputy chief minister, urging immediate action on the long-delayed 2-lane road construction project along National Highway-202, which connects Kohima to Mokokchung via the eastern region of the state.
In its memorandum addressed to the deputy chief minister, the federation expressed serious concern over the prolonged neglect of the NH-202 stretch passing through the eastern districts, stating that the road remains in a dilapidated state despite all requisite surveys, clearances, and formalities reportedly being completed more than a decade ago.
While similar 2-lane road projects have been executed in other parts of the state—such as the Kohima–Meluri section of NH-202—the portion linking the eastern districts has been left abandoned, the ENSF lamented.

“The deplorable condition of this road has resulted in persistent hardship for the people of eastern Nagaland,” the ENSF stated. Frequent landslides and mudslides, it added, have rendered the route impassable at times, severely disrupting transportation, isolating entire communities, and stifling economic activities in the region.
Highlighting the sense of neglect and disparity felt by the people, the federation underscored that eastern Nagaland continues to lag behind in infrastructure development.
“While we sincerely appreciate the state government’s vision for improved connectivity, and its stated commitment towards inclusive development, the continued inaction on this particular project has caused deep hardship and reinforced the sense of marginalisation among the people of eastern Nagaland,” it added.
The ENSF, reaffirming its trust in the state government’s leadership, urged the deputy chief minister to personally intervene and ensure that the construction of the 2-lane road along NH-202 in the eastern sector begins without further delay.
