Dimapur, June 11 (EMN): The Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) has announced a day of mourning for the demise of NSCN (Khaplang) Chairman SS Khaplang. The ENPO issued a press release on Sunday informing to have conducted an emergency meeting with six of its federating tribal units and frontal organisations on June 10 in Dimapur.

The organisation has decided to observe a day of mourning by shutting down all private institutions and business establishments on June 13, Tuesday, in the entire areas of eastern Nagaland as a mark of respect to the departed NSCN leader. The organisation informed that all private institutions and business establishments will come under the purview of the proposed dawn-to-dusk shutdown. The Eastern Nagaland Students’ Federation (ENSF) has been entrusted to “mobilise the ground works” for said event, the ENPO stated.

The ENPO expressed condolences for the demise of Shangwang Shangyung Khaplang, chairman of the NSCN (K).

“The ENPO is deeply saddened by the loss of a great leader, father and freedom fighter who dedicated his life for more than half a century in struggle with a sincere hope that his people may see the light of both physical and spiritual,” the organisation stated.

“At this hour of grief, we express our deep sorrow and convey sincere sympathy to the bereaved family members and pray for the departed soul to rest in eternal peace. Though he is no more with us physically, his spirit of unwavering resistance will live in the hearts and minds of the people.”

Also, the ENPO ‘recalled its initiative of persuading the late leader and his government to reconsider the abrogation of ceasefire agreement with the government of India’ and to opt for a peaceful dialogue, and “were hoping to have a positive response from his end.”

Nonetheless, the ENPO hoped that the new leadership would consider the appeal ‘made by the public.’
