[dropcap]F[/dropcap]our officials of Manipur’s Public Works Department (PWD) including two Engineers have been put under suspension in connection with the collapse of a bridge in the north eastern state.
Deputy Secretary (Works) Th Amalkumar Singh of Manipur government has issued an official notification in this regard today. The four suspended officials of PWD are Executive Engineer (Bridge Division) I Ingochouba Singh; Assistant Engineer-III (Bridge Division) N Bimol Singh; Section Officer Md Abdul Khalid of Sub-Division-III; Bridge Division and Road Mohori S Shantikumar Singh of PWD Bridge Division.They have been kept under suspension with immediate effect after the Governor of Manipur, in exercise of the powers conferred by Sub-rule (1) of Rule 10 of the Central Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1965.
On February 6, a bridge which was under construction at Keirao Litan Makhong over Iril River collapsed at Keirao village in Manipur’s Imphal East district. Five labourers were seriously injured during the incident. The incident took place when the workers were at the work site under Keirao assembly constituency.

authority warned
Revival Demand Committee of the Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU) has served an ultimatum to the university authority for revival of Students’ body within February 25. This was stated by convenor Th. Suresh of MUSURC during a press meet held this afternoon at the Students’ Home located inside Manipur University Campus Canchipur.
Suresh warned that the committee would go for severe form of agitation if the authority fails to do within the said time frame. “Without a proper student’s platform, the students of the university are hand tied as many issues are coming infront of us like rape and molestation of North East Students in the national capital,” MUSURC said.
It may be mentioned that the agitation with the demand of revival of Student’s Union started from December 9 last year.
