Dimapur, Feb. 22 (EMN): The Forest department of Phek District released endangered pangolins into the wildlife reserved area at Lozaphuhu on Feb.22. The pangolins were released in the presence of members from Lozaphuhu Village Council, students’ union and youth Organisation.

An update informed that the village extended its appreciation to the DFO Phek, DC Phek and Rukusayi Khusoh for donating and facilitating the release of the wild animal into the Lozaphuhu Wildlife Reserved Area, “which is a huge encouragement towards the Community’s conservation efforts”.

As per the village resolution, the community has also reaffirmed that it would ‘brook no excuse but impose heavy penalty against anyone be it its own members or others who kills any of the severely endangered species not only in the Reserved Area but in the whole of Lozaphuhu village territory like samber deer (tukhro), bear (thuga), tiger (tukho), wild goat (thulu), pangolin (tupho), hornbill (thuro), peacock (ri-ri), eagle (zode) and python (shae)’.
