Speaking to media persons, ENCSU joint secretary, Nokchem Angh said, after a meeting of Chief Secretary and department officials, the union was assured that the department will conduct counselling in three phases after approval of the cabinet. The written assurance signed by the Director of Technical Education says, ‘As per verbal instruction/advice given by the Government during an emergency meeting called by the Chief Secretary, Nagaland, at his official resident on 6th September, 2016 at 9:30 AM, the Department has decided to conduct counselling in three phases. The next and third counselling shall be conducted after approval of the Cabinet/Government’. ENCSU has been fighting for the 15% seat reservation for the backward tribes in the recently declared NSEE II exam, wherein Angh has asserted that it is demanding for what is genuine and rightfully belongs to them. He said, it was compelled to agitate following the failure of the government to implement the 15% seat reservation, whereby only three seats were allocated under backward quota. In a letter to the Chief Secretary on September 3, ENCSU has warned that it will organize a peaceful agitation at the Directorate of Higher & Technical Education on September 6 till the matter is resolved within the stipulated time and ‘justice is delivered’. Today’s agitation saw the participation of hundreds of students from all the colleges in Kohima and tribal leaders of the Eastern Nagas.
