Employees in essential services to vote by postal ballot

DIMAPUR — In pursuance to Election Commission of India (ECI) notification dated March 19 regarding Clause  of Section 60 of the Representation of People Act 1951, the deputy commissioner (DC) and district election officer (DEO) of Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, informed that persons employed in ‘essential services’ would allowed to vote by postal ballot on April 19.

The essential service departments are Power, Medical, Fire and Emergency Services, Traffic police, ambulance service, Jail, Police, Civil Defence and Home Huard, media persons.

In this regard, the head of departments rendering essential services are asked to nominate a nodal officer to coordinate with the postal ballot cell at the DC office, Dimapur.

The notification stated that nodal officer should submit a list of employees who will be on duty on the polling day in 1-Dimapur-I, 2-Dimapur-II, 3-Dimapur-III assembly segments to the Nagaland parliamentary constituency that falls under Dimapur district.

It informed that Form 12D would be issued against the list of employees on duty on the polling day adding that the filled Form 12D should be submitted to the DC office and accordingly postal ballot would be prepared for such employees.

The notification further stated that the list should be submitted by the nodal officer at the earliest and the filled in Form 12D should reach the DC office by March 25.

Training for polling officials

Meanwhile, DC Dimapur informed that the first phase training for all the officials, who have been detailed for the poll day duty under Dimapur, Chümoukedima and Niuland districts, will be held on March 27 and 28 at Dimapur Government College at 10 am.

The training for presiding officers and 1st polling officials will be held on March 27 at 10 am, while the training for 2nd polling officials and 3rd polling officials will be held on March 28 at 10 am.

All the officials are directed to attend the training.
