Wokha, July 12 (EMN):
Women of Elumyo village have submitted a memorandum to the district administration on Monday in connection to the election of Village Council Chairman (VCC) requesting to consider the legitimate aspiration and interest of Elumyo village. The memorandum highlighted the incident of the VCC election of Elumyo on July 6, when a certain group of people along with the supporters of the intending VCC candidate, L Zubenthung Tsanglao gathered outside the community hall to boycott the election through democratic agitation.

The agitation, it claimed, was against the final audit report and findings of the social audit committee which prompted a large section of the community to demand for a general meeting to address the issue of misuse of public funds before the VCC election.

Following the alleged unilateral decision of the GBs to conduct the VCC election at a different venue, i.e Old Community Hall, confrontation took place between the agitating party and supporters of C Zumomo Tsanglao, intending VCC candidate, resulting in grievous injuries of certain individuals.

It further claimed that serious discontentment arose within the village when the GBs decided to conduct the VCC election without considering and addressing the serious issues involving the larger interest of the community.

The women of Elumyo village stated that if the VCC election is conducted by the concerned authority before addressing the issue, it would only aggravate the situation and may even result in more damages both in terms of property and human life. It stated that it would be deemed as ‘misdemeanor’ and the concerned authority would be held responsible. A representation was therefore submitted to the deputy commissioner of Wokha to take prompt action for the interest and peaceful coexistence of the public at Elumyo village.
