Dimapur, March 24 (EMN): As cryptocurrency values continue to surge in the global market, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk announced in a tweet that buyers can now purchase a Tesla vehicle with bitcoin.

Bitcoin prices surged to the $57,000 level on Wednesday after Tesla CEO Elon Musk took to Twitter to inform potential Tesla owners that they can now get a Tesla electric vehicle with the digital currency. The option to pay with bitcoin now appears on the company’s website as well.

It may be mentioned that the electric car company announced to start accepting bitcoin as payment over a month ago. Tesla has already invested $1.5 billion in bitcoins.

In a subsequent tweet, Musk said that the bitcoin paid to Tesla will be retained in its original form and would not be converted to Fiat currency. Musk also noted that the company uses internal, open-source software and that Tesla operates its bitcoin nodes directly.

However, the option to buy a Tesla using bitcoin will only be available for people in the US. “Pay by Bitcoin capability [will be] available outside [the] US later this year,” he added.

Users can either scan a QR code or copy/paste their bitcoin wallet address to initiate a payment.
