New Market and IGAR(N) enters quarter-final

Elite Football Club Kohima knocked out former champions Nagaland Police to book their berth in the quarter finals of Classic Cup along with New Market XI and HQ IGAR(N) at Kohima Local Ground.In a close-shave but excitement filled third match of the former champions Nagaland Police playing a defensive tactic cost them heavily as debutant Elite Football Club, Naga Bazaar, Kohima rolled over with a solitary goal scored in the second half of the match.
The former champions took to defensive play while Elite FC were into attacking from the beginning and got several chances to score but to no avail during the first half.
However, it was in the 11th minute of the breather that Graceson fully took advantage of the air ball from his defence line and found the lead bringing roar from the almost full spectators in the ground.
As the clock ticked by Naga Police tried to return to the game and took on to offensive play, but failed to find the much needed equalizer and conceded out of the tourney.
Winning the match with a solitary goal against the former champions and one of the renowned team in the state, Elite FC players celebrated their victory by offering chain pray inside the middle circle and also had photo session with supporters.
Earlier, in the first match between New Market XI and Meriema FC, it was again scoring maniac Rhitso Mero’s day as he contributed two goals in defeating the rivals by 3-0.
Mero scored the first two goals in the 18th and 20th minute to be the highest scorer of the tourney with 15 goals in three matches with a double hat-trick to his credit.
Keneisedelie sealed the score board with the third in the 70th minute.
In the second match of the day, HQ IGAR(N) defeated Adroit Boyz, Zubza by 2-0 with E. Zofa and Seilela scoring the goals in the 3rd and 59th minute.
