Eleven persons found Covid-19 positive in Manipur, cases rise to 20

Imphal, May 20 (EMN): 11 persons including six males and five females were tested Covid-19 positive in Manipur on Wednesday, according to Health department officials.

The said 11 persons were tested positive out of 90 persons tested at the testing laboratory of JNIMS in Imphal.

Disclosing this additional director and spokesperson Dr. Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang of the health department in a press release issued on Wednesday said that nine of them are stranded people from Chennai while the remaining two were from Delhi and Guwahati.

Stating that all necessary control measures like containment and contact tracing taken up, the release added that the total number of positive cases in the state has increased to 20.

“There are two recovered cases and 18 active cases in the state” it said. “The public were reminded that social distancing, regular use of face masks and washing hands with soap or sanitisers are very effective preventive measures.”

Meanwhile like on Tuesday, a special train from Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh ferrying stranded residents of Manipur due to the nationwide lockdown imposed to contain the Covid-19 pandemic reached Jiribam Railway Station at 8:14 am on Wednesday.

At the Jiribam railway station, all the returnees travelling in the special train from Vijayawada were screened by the authorities, DIPR sources said. The returnees boarded the buses after undergoing necessary screening process and other mandatory procedures under the supervision of the Jiribam district administration.

The returnees will remain in isolation at the community quarantine centres for 14 days, it added.
