DIMAPUR — The Electoral Literacy Club SJC(A),Jakhama in collaboration with the National Service Scheme, spearheaded a robust campaign advocating Clean Elections. The initiative, led by Shri Kumar Ramnikant, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, and supported by the Election Commission of India, unfolded at St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous) Jakhama

The campaign saw active participation from over 1000 students across seven classes from the Departments of Political Science and Sociology. Students pledged their commitment to clean elections by signing cards provided by the Election Commission of India, while also receiving informative pamphlets highlighting the significance of clean electoral practices

At the helm of the club’s leadership are Mr. KevileviThokhwe as President, Mr. KepozoKapuh as General Secretary, and Miss Nalio G Sumi as Finance Secretary, supported by Sir Yhunsinlo David Tep and Sir KevizaseKehie as Nodal Officers. Mr. Kapuh, in his capacity as General Secretary, addressed the classes, elucidating the essence of clean elections, emphasizing the importance of Urban Local Body (ULB) and LokSabha elections, and highlighting key qualities to discern in candidates during electoral processes

The primary objective of this outreach endeavor is to galvanize interest and active participation, particularly among youth, in the forthcoming elections. The club aims to instil a sense of responsibility for upholding democratic values and principles, ensuring that electoral proceedings transpire in a transparent and fair manner. Ultimately, the club endeavors to cultivate a cadre of conscientious and authentic voters through the ripple effect of its impactful campaign.

As the LokSabha elections approach, the significance of electoral literacy cannot be overstated. This campaign underscores the importance of student engagement in understanding the essence of democracy through elections and acquiring knowledge to become informed voters.
