IMPHAL — The Election Commission of India (ECI) delegation led by Deputy Director P Pawan visited Manipur’s Bishnupur district to review the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR)-2026 of the Photo Electoral Roll.
The delegation, accompanied by ECI social media executive Devansh Tiwari, also held a review meeting with District Election Officer (DEO) and Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pooja Elangbam along with electoral registration officers (EROs) of the district on June 26.
During the meeting, Elangbam presented a detailed report on the progress of SIR-2026 activities in the district.
The presentation highlighted the district’s demographic profile, preparatory measures undertaken, training of election personnel, printing and distribution of enumeration forms, the ongoing enumeration process, rationalisation of polling stations, and other key initiatives carried out as part of the revision exercise.
Reviewing the progress of the SIR, Pawan appreciated the efforts of the district and stressed the importance of maintaining proper documentation of all activities undertaken during the SIR process.
He also stressed the need to strengthen the response mechanism against misinformation and advised officials to make every effort to effectively counter and prevent the spread of misinformation, thereby ensuring the accuracy, transparency, and credibility of all SIR-related activities.
Later, the ECI delegation, accompanied by the EROs and assistant EROs of Moirang and Thanga assembly constituencies, visited the Chingu Thangjing Guest House Relief Camp in Moirang as well as polling stations in Thanga and Karang, a lake island.
During the field visit, the delegation interacted with internally displaced persons (IDPs) residing at the relief camp regarding the ongoing SIR activities.
The delegation also interacted with booth level officers at the polling stations, who briefed them on the activities undertaken, particularly their role and progress during the enumeration phase of the SIR.
