DIMAPUR — The Election Commission of India (ECI) has identified two Registered Unrecognised Political Parties (RUPPs) from Nagaland for possible delisting as part of its ongoing nationwide exercise to clean up the electoral system.
The ECI began the process in 2019 to remove parties that have not contested any election for six consecutive years, according to an official statement.

In the first round of the exercise, concluded on August 9, 334 RUPPs were delisted, but none were from Nagaland. In the second round, announced on Monday, 476 parties from various states and union territories have been identified, including two from Nagaland, though it did not disclose their names.
Chief Electoral Officers in the respective states and UTs have been directed to issue show-cause notices to the identified parties and offer them an opportunity to be heard before any decision is taken. The final decision will be made by the ECI based on the CEOs’ reports.
