Election campaigns for Lok Sabha to conclude in Nagaland on April 17
DIMAPUR — The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Nagaland, Vyasan R, has issued a notification informing that the campaigning period for the general election to the 18th Lok Sabha from the Nagaland Parliamentary Constituency will conclude at 4 pm on April 17.
Citing Section 126 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the CEO notified that after 4 pm on April 17, individuals will be prohibited from convening, attending, or addressing any public meeting or procession related to the election.
Public display of election-related content through mediums including cinematography, television, or similar apparatus, as well as the propagation of election matters through musical concerts, theatrical performances, or other forms of entertainment, will be strictly prohibited.
“Any person who contravenes the above provision shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both. After the closure of campaign period, no campaign can take place within the constituency,” read the notification.
It also said that political functionaries and party workers, who are not registered voters of the constituency, are to vacate the area once the campaign period concludes as their continued presence may undermine the atmosphere for free and fair poll.
“The District Election Administration/ Police Administration shall ensure that all political functionaries leave the constituency immediately after the campaign period is over,” it said.
However, in the case of office bearers of political parties who are in-charge of the state, they should declare their residence at the State Headquarters, and their movements during this period shall typically be limited to their party office and place of residence, it added.
