Educational institutions observe World Environment Day with advocacy

Dimapur, June 4 (EMN): Members of Yemhi Memorial College at Dimapur observed World Environment Day on June 4 with advocacy against ‘air pollution,’ which is the global theme for the event’s edition of 2019. The college issued a press release to the media on Tuesday informing about the programme. The resource person for the event was Kezia Yepthomi from the Ambedkar University at New Delhi. She urged upon the students to take a stand to protect the environment and to make it a “battle of our lives,” the updates stated. The college’s members cleaned the campus and its vicinity, the updates added. Phek The Royal Foundation School in Phek conducted a program commemorating World Environment Day in the school’s premises on Tuesday. A press release from the school stated that assistant teacher for science Mhethowe-u addressed the students. The teacher highlighted to the students the significance of observing the event, which is an initiative of the UN that has seen the participation of many countries in the world today. Speaking about the theme, she stressed on the dangers and harmful effects of air pollution and cited various human activities that pollute the air. ‘Enlightening the students to wake up and be aware of all these activities, she urged the students to pledge for a better environment for a better life,’ the updates stated. A short act depicting the cause and effect of air pollution was performed by primary students under the prevision of their school teachers.
