Educational institutes undertake cleanliness drive

DIMAPUR — As part of ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ and ‘Sewa Pakhwara’ campaign, the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Yingli College in Longleng carried out a cleanliness drive in and around the Lempong junction, petrol pump area, Nyengching junction, high school junction, SBI area, public ground, NST stand and Hukphang junction on September 21.

An update from the college stated that the Swachhata Pledge was administered to all the participants prior to the cleanliness drive at Lempong junction.

It stated that the volunteers covered about 2 km in Longleng town during its 1st phase activities of Swachhata Hi Seva.

Altogether, 150 NSS volunteers along 6 faculty, 2 NSS community members and one PO participated in the programme.

During the cleanliness drive, the volunteers collected about 120 kg to 130 kg of waste/garbage.

It mentioned that the campaign would culminate on October 2.

In a related programme, the National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers of Pranab College organised a cleanliness drive and plastic waste collection on Tuesday.

The primary focus of the drive was to clean the surrounding areas of Dimapur railway station and promote the ban on single-use plastics.

Under the guidance of NSS programme officer, Ulla Fernandez, and faculty members namely Moasunep and Rupam Dasgupta, the NSS volunteers of Pranab College cleared the plastic wastes around Dimapur railway station.

The NSS cell also observed the National Service Cell foundation day by distributing packed food to the people at the railway station area.
