DIMAPUR — Different educational institutions held various events aimed at promoting academic excellence and cultural engagement across the state.

St. Joseph University: The Department of English, St. Joseph University, Chümoukedima, conducted its second two-day national seminar on October 7 and 8 on the theme “Reviving linguistics, literature and cultural studies.”

The main focus of the seminar was to revive the areas concerning linguistics, literature, and cultural studies and to evaluate the changes and developments that have occurred over time.

The national seminar also aimed to study how language, literature, and culture are interwoven and correlated in various aspects.

On the first day, three paper presentations were made by research scholars of SJU, followed by additional paper presentations on the second day, in which 25 papers, authored and co-authored by 37 teachers, scholars, and students on various topics, were presented.

Oriental College Kohima: Oriental College Kohima concluded its week-long cultural-cum-literary and annual sports meet 2024 on October 9 with Director of Youth Resources and Sports, Kethosituo Sekhose, as the special guest for the grand finale.

In his address, he emphasised the immense potential of Nagaland’s youth, citing raw talent despite infrastructural challenges, and commended the government’s ongoing efforts to address these issues.

He highlighted that there are numerous opportunities for those who demonstrate hard work, sincerity, and discipline. Stressing the importance of holistic development in schools and colleges, he noted that co-curricular activities are as vital as academics in fostering personal growth.

Referring to the state’s Paralympic shot-put bronze medallist, Hokato Hotozhe Sema, the guest encouraged students to set priorities, pursue their goals with determination, and reminded them that there is no “right” time to start—any moment is the right time to begin their journey towards success.

MGM Higher Secondary School: MGM Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, conducted a science exhibition on October 8 in the school premises, focussing on the theme “Science and technology for a sustainable future.”

An update stated that a total of 33 teams participated in the event. The competition was conducted in three categories: category A for classes 6 to 8, category B for classes 9 and 10, and category C for classes 11 and 12.

The judges for the competition were Yanyi R Tungoe, Nokinlepzuk, and Indrani Ash, science teachers at S. D. Jain High Secondary School, Dimapur.

During his address, Rev. Fr. Giju George, vice president of MGM Higher Secondary School, acknowledged the hard work invested by the participating teams in creating their innovative models. He encouraged them to continue this effort in the future to invent models that will be beneficial to society.

Reji Abraham, principal, emphasised that scientists are the individuals changing the world, as the technologies people use today are created by them. He highlighted that the hands behind all modern medicines and medical equipment belong to scientists.
