Education department sets suggestive activities for Shiksha Saptah

DIMAPUR — To mark the 4th anniversary of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 on July 29, the School Education department will organise Shiksha Saptah event from July 22 to the 28th at all levels of the department.

The department envisaged to conduct various thematic activities for seven days starting from July 22. The Ministry of Education, Government of India, has provided a comprehensive suggestive activity for each day to culminate with community involvement and Tithi Bhojan, a DIPR report stated.

Tithi Bhojan is a community participation programme that encourages people to provide nutritious food to children in schools on special occasions.

In this regard, it stated that some state-specific suggestive activities have been prepared for the schools as a guide in planning the activities during the event.

Since the seventh day (July 28) of the event falls on Sunday, the activity for July 28 could be conducted along with the sixth day activities on July 27. The respective district and EBRC should extend all possible hand holding support to schools in planning and conducting the activities, it stated.

As the mentioned activities are suggestive in nature, it informed that schools could conduct any relevant activities as per the guidelines provided by the Ministry of Education.

All the schools are to submit daily activity report by 2 pm through Google form. It added that submission of report by every school would be made mandatory.

Suggestive activities for Shiksha Saptah

July 22 (TLM Day): All the schools may conduct teaching learning material (TLM) melas in the school premises to create wide awareness on the importance of TLM by involving students, teachers, students’ parents and community leaders to explain the use of TLM to achieve important learning goals.

Schools can also organise poster and slogan campaign for higher classes with focus on NEP 2020 theme, water conservation, social services etc. Schools can also conduct reading class for students using library books, news papers, journals, magazines and other reading materials available in the schools.

July 23 (FLN Day): NIPUN Bharat Mission aims to achieve universal foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN) for all children from three to eight years by 2026-27. Therefore, schools having foundational stage education may organise various activities under FLN.

July 24 (Sports day): Schools can create awareness about physical fitness for students, healthy life style and harmful effects of tobacco products. Schools can also organise sports activities as per the availability of play areas and sport materials. Focus may be made in involving students to play indigenous games.

July 25 (Cultural day): Schools can organise various cultural activities to celebrate the rich cultural diversity by wearing at least one or two cultural attires on this day. Activities such as singing of folk songs and narration of folk tales can be conducted by inviting elders from the neighbourhood.

July 26 (Skilling day): Schools can conduct various craft activities such as weaving, handicrafts-making, basket-making, carpentry, clay models etc. Experts may be invited to render free services to students as resource persons. Schools can also organise field trip to the nearby terrace or jhum fields to enable students to experience and understand agriculture cycles, practice of multiple cropping etc.

July 27 (Mission LiFE and community involvement Day): Schools can organise various activities to celebrate the rich biodiversity of the state, create awareness on conservation by conducting plantation activities. Fruit trees may be planted in the school premises. School youth and club members can take the lead in conducting the activities. Community awareness on various aspect of education as envisaged in the NEP 2020 can be conducted involving community members.

It stated that the Directorate of School Education would be the overall in-charge for coordination and supervision of Shiksha Saptah activities, issue circular to the districts, while PM Poshan team would coordinate in organising Tithi Bhojan on the final day.

It informed that SCERT would provide necessary academic support and coordinate with DIET, while NBSE would coordinate with private un-aided schools and ensure their participation and monitor daily report submission.

NECTAR Project would prepare IEC materials to create wide community awareness and the Samagra Shiksha would coordinate with the line departments for report compilation and final daily report submission to the Ministry of Education as per timeline, the report added.
