THE unavailability of funds in 2013-2014 is being attributed to the delay in distribution of free textbooks to students in government schools. Responding to concerns by NSF over the delay , the Directorate of School Education clarified that the order for the free textbooks was placed only on January 25, 2014. The books from the publishers are reportedly in transit and expected to reach Dimapur by February 25, according to the Director of School Education Zaveyi Nyekha. Nyekha said the department is making all efforts to complete distribution of the books at the earliest possible, and therefore urged the student community in particular and the public in general to bear with the department.
He also added that the department could procure and distribute the books well ahead of academic session of 2013 as the Finance department made the required amount available in time during 2012-13.
The NSF in a statement on Tuesday,had slammed the Education department for the delay in textbook distribution. The student’s body had earlier demanded that the text books be made available in three weeks under any circumstances.
