Dimapur, August 14 (EMN): The East Dimapur Sumi Youth Organization (EDSYO) thanked the ACP Dimapur Traffic Police, OC Dimapur Traffic Zone 2, for giving the organisation an opportunity to regulate the flow of traffic within its jurisdiction.
It may be mentioned that EDSYO in collaboration with the Dimapur Police assisted the Traffic Zone 2 officials in monitoring traffic from the New Dhansiri Bridge to Padumpukhri Gate from August 10 to 12.
While acknowledging the ‘under-appreciated’ hard work of the traffic officials, the president of EDSYO, Reuben Chophy, opined that the job of the officials can be made easier and commuting even easier and smoother for everyone if officials are allowed to do their jobs and the general public followed and abided by the simple rule of commuting in a single line.
The president said “this particular stretch is regular witness to never ending traffic jam because of the deplorable road condition which has only worsened due to the recent closure of the two bridges at Nagarjan and the Old Dhansiri Bridge at Purana Bazaar. This pothole riddled stretch which has been neglected for more than a decade is currently the main, and only means through which the East Dimapur and Chumukedima Block is connected to the main city of Dimapur.”
In the regard, the organisation urged the concerned authority to prioritise the maintenance of the particular stretch of highway an assured its full cooperation to the authorities.
The president also stated that the Old Dhansiri Bridge has been under construction for almost a year now and seeing no particular progress, therefore, the organisation appealed to the authority to fast track the completion of this bridge.
EDSYO also appealed for constructing a temporary connecting footbridge and suggested setting up an auto stand on either side of the Old Dhansiri bridge which will allow for the diversion of traffic and ease the burden faced by Traffic Officials as wells as the commuters.
“The organization is overwhelmed by the encouragement and good deeds done towards the volunteers by well wishers as well as commuters. Your support and encouragement has been the validation of our intent,” the release added.
